Selecting a carrier for a shipment

The Select Carrier action is available only to shipments with a New status. Use the Select Carrier action to send one or more shipments for rating and routing. After rating and routing is completed, the top-ranked carrier from the rating and routing process is selected, shipments receive a Route Created status, and are assigned carrier routes with a Carrier Selected status. A route is not automatically tendered as a result of the Select Carrier action. The user must manually tender the route.

From the Shipment list page, you can select a carrier for one shipment or multiple shipments. From the Shipment detail page, you can select a carrier for the displayed shipment.

When you select multiple shipments on the Shipments list page and you select an action, and if one or more of the selected shipments have a status that is not valid for the selected action, an error dialog indicates how many shipments are not processed successfully. View the shipment details and click Messages to access the error information for that particular shipment.

To select a carrier:

  1. Select Transportation > Shipment.
  2. Click the Search arrow on the search toolbar to display a list of shipments.
    Use the filter options on the search toolbar to refine the list.
  3. Select one or more shipments for which you want to select a carrier.
  4. Select Actions > Select Carrier.
    The shipment status is updated from New to Route Created. The Shipment List page is automatically refreshed, and the shipment status is updated to Route Created. Information about the carrier, the estimated pickup date, and the estimated delivery date is now displayed.

    From the Shipment detail page, you can click Messages to display the Shipment Messages dialog and confirm that the carrier is selected.
