Selecting an alternate carrier

You can assign or assign and tender an alternate carrier for these statuses:

  • Carrier Selected
  • Tender Rejected
  • Tender Canceled

For all other statuses, the alternate carrier list is view only. For example, if you want to select or select and tender an alternate carrier for a shipment in tendered status, you must first cancel the tender to move it to Tender Canceled status.

Use the Alternate Carriers action to review a list of alternate carriers and their tender history, and manually replace a carrier with one of the alternate carriers. You can also review freight charges for the alternate carrier and tender the route to the carrier. Selecting Assign results in a Carrier Selected status. Selecting Assign and Tender results in a Tendered status.

You can assign an alternate carrier to the displayed route from the Carrier Route detail page or from the Shipment Carrier Route page.

For all of the information on the alternate carrier list to be updated, the route must first be rated and routed through the rating and routing process. The manual assignment of a carrier and freight charges results in some information on the page being blank, such as mode, expected pickup and delivery, and response date and time.

To select an alternate carrier:

  1. Select Transportation > Carrier Route.
  2. Click the Search arrow on the search toolbar to display a list of carrier routes.
    Use the filter options on the search toolbar to refine the list.
  3. Select to view the details for the carrier whom you want to replace.
  4. Select Actions > Alternate Carriers.
    The Alternate Carriers dialog is displayed with qualifying carriers ranked by the rating and routing process.
  5. Review the information. Click the links under the Total Charges column to display the Alternate Carrier Freight Charges dialog to review the freight charges for each carrier.
  6. Select the alternate carrier and then select the applicable action:
    • To assign the route to the selected carrier, select Actions > Assign > Close.
    • To assign and tender the route to the selected carrier, select Actions > Assign & Tender > Close.
    After you select an action, refresh the Alternate Carriers dialog to view the updated carrier selection and status, and then click Close to return to the Carrier Route detail page or the Shipment Carrier Route page. The name of the carrier and the freight charges are updated, and the carrier route status is updated to Carrier Selected or Tendered.

    From the Carrier Route detail page or the Shipment Carrier Route detail page, you can click Messages to display the Route Messages dialog and confirm that the route is reassigned and selected or tendered.
