Canceling the route

Typically, you might manually cancel a route when a shipment that is part of a larger route needs special processing or needs to be expedited. Canceling the route releases the shipments so that you can create a new route for the released shipments or tender them.

A route can be canceled automatically if a shipment is canceled by the source system or if a modification occurs to a shipment that justifies a re-rate/re-route of the shipment.

The Cancel Route action is available to routes with these statuses:

  • New
  • Carrier Selected
  • Tendered
  • Tender Accepted
  • Tender Rejected
  • No Rates Found
Caution: Before canceling a route in Tender Accepted status, confirm that the carrier has not already dispatched the truck for the route, to avoid a "dry run" or "equipment ordered and not used" charge.

Use the Cancel Route action to release shipments and cancel one or more routes, and depending on configuration, generate communication of the cancellation to the carriers in the form of a Tender Cancel alert or EDI cancellation notification. The shipments return to a New status, and the routes receive a Canceled status.

From the Carrier Route list page, you can select to cancel a route for one route or multiple routes. From the Carrier Route detail page or from the Shipment Carrier Route page, you can cancel a route for the displayed route.

To cancel a route:

  1. Select Transportation > Carrier Route.
  2. Click the Search arrow on the search toolbar to display a list of carrier routes.
Use the filter options on the search toolbar to refine the list.
  3. Select one or more routes to cancel.
  4. Select Actions > Cancel Route.
The route status is updated to Canceled and the associated shipment status changes to New.

From the Carrier Route detail page, you can click Messages to display the Route Messages dialog and confirm that the route is canceled.
