Defining rules for sequential tendering

TM uses sequential tendering to automatically tender a route to the next ranked carrier when the previous carrier rejects the tender or the tender time-out period expires for the previous carrier. Sequential tendering applies to tendering that occurs after the initial tender.

To use sequential tendering, you must set up this information:

  • Sequential tendering configuration rules that determine when to activate sequential tendering for the carrier route
  • Tender time-out values in carrier contracts that define the time-out period for the tenders associated with the carrier route and the default tender time-out value in configuration rules for use on any carriers manually assigned to a route
  • Routing guide rules to control the ranking of carriers and provide information to determine which carrier receives the next tender
  • Routing guide maximum sequential tender limits to define the number of carriers from the ranked list that receive a tender in the sequential tendering process

After the last ranked carrier rejects the route or the maximum sequential tender limit is reached, as defined in the routing guide, the status of the carrier route is changed to Tender Rejected.

You can create sequential tendering configuration rules by carrier route, defined as one or more combinations of owners (accounting entities), shippers (ship-from locations), and destinations (ship-to locations).

Information Description
Sequential Tender After Carrier Reject Specify yes to activate sequential tendering to the next ranked carrier after a carrier rejects the tender.
Sequential Tender After Tender Timeout Specify yes to activate sequential tendering to the next ranked carrier after a carrier's tender time-out period expires.
Sequential Tender Same Carrier Specify yes to allow a carrier to remain eligible to receive subsequent tenders of the route after the carrier rejects a tender the first time or the carrier's tender time-out period expires.
Enable Tender Timeout Specify yes to activate the tender time-out process to monitor the time that a carrier has to accept or reject a tender before the route is tendered to the next ranked carrier.

If no is selected, sequential tendering still occurs, but only when a carrier rejects a route. Otherwise, the route stays in Tendered status and does not time our and sequentially tender to the next carrier in the ranked list. Also, if no is selected, then the value defined in the Default Tender Timeout (minutes) field is ignored.

Default Tender Timeout (minutes) Specify the default time-out period for the route.

This value is used if a user has manually assigned a carrier to the route by using either the Create Carrier Route or Assign Carrier actions. If either of those actions is taken, there is no ranked carrier list from the rating and routing engine and, therefore, no tender time-out value because these values are obtained from the carrier contracts.

If left blank, routes created by using Create Carrier Route or Assign Carrier do not time out and remain in Tendered status until the manually assigned carrier rejects them.
