Selecting service requirements

To select service requirements:

  1. Select Rate Query > Quick Rate > Service Requirements.
  2. Select a mode, all modes, or multiple modes.
    To use:
    • A particular mode when searching for a rate contract, select the check box to the left of the mode names

For example, TL designates Truckload and LTL designates Less than Truckload. When you select a mode, only that mode is used when searching for potential carriers for your query.

    • All modes, clear all of the check boxes, which is the default setting
    • Multiple modes, select all the modes that apply. However, if you select more than one check box, this limits the number of potential carriers for your shipment.

When you select a mode, the fields in the Equipment section are populated for the selected mode. The exception is Parcel, which does not have specific equipment associated with it. You can change the type of equipment as required.

  3. To consider

Select air service options. If you select Air, the Service Options page is displayed.

    1. Specify a particular service level by selecting a shipping level from the Level list. You can also select a service type from the Type list.
    2. Specify the dimensional weight factor by specify the weight and volume. For example, 1 pound for 166 cubic inches indicates a calculation in total volume in cubic inches divided by 166 to obtain the chargeable weight.

When this weight is compared with the actual weight, whichever weight is highest is used for the rating process. During rate calculation, this dimensional weight factor is used instead of the dimensional weight factor specified in the rate contract.

    3. Specify the value of the goods. Specify the numeric amount and select the type of currency. The specified value is used to calculate any charges where the rate basis = % value of the goods.
  4. Equipment section

To specify a particular vehicle by mode, select a vehicle type from the list for TL/LTL/Intermodal list.

Selecting a vehicle type indicates that you want to consider only those carriers that have this type of equipment. For example, if you select Truck/Intermodal, you may want to specify that a Flatbed Truck is required. You select that option from the list.

If you select equipment from the lists, the appropriate modes are automatically selected from the mode section above.

Note: Mode is required when you select equipment from the list. You can clear a pre-selected mode and select additional modes as required.
  5. To specify a particular vehicle length, select an item in the Length list.

For example, if the mode is TL/LTL/Intermodal and the vehicle is a Flatbed Truck, you may want a 45' Flatbed Truck. Select 45 feet.

Note: For Air, TM offers container size options. If you select a length or container size for air, this means that you want to use only those carriers that support this length of vehicle or container size.
  6. Pickup/Delivery Service section:
Use this section to specify any pickup or delivery service options, more commonly known as accessorial changes, for your query.
    1. Select the appropriate checkbox to the left of the service option. You must designate whether the service selected is for pickup, PU, for delivery, Del, or for both.
    2. To view additional Pickup/Delivery Service options, click the More Pickup/Delivery Services link on the Service Requirements page.
    3. Use the additional Special Pickup Services and additional Special Delivery Services page.
    4. Click the Return to Previous page link to return to the main Service Requirements page.
