Working with rate contracts

Rate contract enables you, the payer of freight, to better manage your existing carrier contract rates. You can add, edit, or delete the rates and lanes in your rate contracts.

The TM catalog is structured around the concept of carrier service rate contracts. A rate contract is a contractual agreement between a shipper and a carrier for freight service that covers a given set of lanes at negotiated rates.

Each rate contract is priced in one of multiple pricing models for a specific mode of transportation. There are three rate contract types:

Note: Full Air and Ocean rating will be supported in a future release.

For each rate contract type there is a Microsoft Excel kit that is used to initiate creation of the rate contract through an upload through Catalog Loader. You can then make subsequent modifications either through a revised kit upload or through Rate Contracts.

Note: Both .xls and .xlsx file types are supported for the rate contract kits.

The rate contract is unique for each shipper and carrier relationship. Carrier accessorial charges, pickup and delivery services, as well as commodity and equipment types are structured on top of the rate contracts. In a search, you can apply filters based on a carrier’s attributes and the lanes under investigation.

Lanes, rates, and transit times cover the majority of the rate contract content and drive the engines for rating and routing and rate query functionality.

Rate Contracts allows you to review and edit all existing rate contracts. You can modify rate contract information, such as accessorial charges and other rate contract attributes. You can also add, edit, or delete the rates and lanes.
