Measurements
In order to properly calculate charges, you must identify a unit level to use for your different charge types. The system can calculate charges based on a single unit of inventory, by weight, cube, temperature, by document, or by line.
Unit of measure codes identify the different handling units (cases, bales, pallets, and so on) as well as the measurement methods (inches, centimeters, cubic feet, pounds, kilograms, and so on) used to process inventory. The system uses this information when calculating charges.
Measurement conversion records identify the conversion factors between two units of measure of different measurement types (such as centimeters and inches) All standard units of measure and conversions between them are pre-configured on the system. You’ll only need to work through this step in the configuration process if you have custom units of measure you need to define.
The system comes with a set of pre-configured unit of measure codes. You’ll want to review these codes to determine if you need to create any additional codes to meet your specific billing requirements.
Unit of Measure
- Required?
- While the system comes with most standard units of measure already defined, you can create new unit of measure records that are unique to your facility (such as different types of boxes, crates, and pallets).
Standard UOM Codes
This table shows the standard codes that are provided with Billing and do not require any additional configuration prior to use:

Fields
- UOM Code/ Description
- The code and description that identify this unit of measure. You’ll use this code to specify this unit of measure throughout the billing system.
- UOM Type
-
The type of measurement recorded with this UOM. This value indicates how the units are calculated-by weight, volume, and so on
- Quantity
- Gross Weight
- Net Weight
- Cube
- Temperature
- Length
- Dimensions
- Load
- Square Feet
- Load Maximum
- Percent of Field
- Not Used
- Measurement System
- The measurement system in which this UOM is used: US Customary or Metric.
- Measure UOM
- Not used
- Equivalent System/ UOM/
- Not used.
UOM Conversions
The Measurement Conversion records identify the conversion between equivalent units of measure of different measurement types. For example, one of the standard conversions provided with the system is the conversion from cubic centimeters to cubic inches.
The system comes with a set of standard conversions. However, if you use any custom units of measure for inventory processing and billing services, you’ll want to configure the conversions required for those custom units of measure.
When you set up billing information, you identify the unit of measure level at which charges are accrued. However, the inventory may be stored and processed at a different unit of measure level. In this case, the system uses unit of measure conversion information to convert the inventory unit of measure to the billing unit of measure.
